Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
What is a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)?
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a hospital procedure that inserts a new aortic valve into the heart. A catheter transports the replacement valve into the old diseased valve which secures it into position. Unlike open-chest surgery, this alternative technology is considerably less invasive. Patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis may qualify for TAVR.
